Mt.Tokachidake (Mt.Tokachi) 170
Temperature: minus 6 degrees Celsius at the Tokachidake Hot Springs (Tokachidake Onsen).
A cold front passed during the midnight. It snowed and the thick fresh snow played the role of insulation (we call this “blanket effect”). Therefore, the road surface temperature was so high that the snow on the road was unstable at low altitudes. So he did the interval training at high altitudes: above 1150m of altitude. Above this altitude, the road was covered with hard ice and compacted snow.
